The Bestiary is a jacket inscribed in rust.
Using the chemical reaction between iron paint and oak tannin, artist Aleks Rogalewicz harnessed oxidation as both pigment and process, painting directly onto cotton twill fabric. The result is a dark menagerie of hybrid animals and humanoid figures: horned creatures, tails, chimeric forms that conjure a world of myth and transformation. His illustrations flow across the jacket like tattoos on skin, each distinct yet part of a larger ecosystem of myth.
Designed and sewn by Selina Vesely, she crafted the jacket with cotton thread and handmade ceramic buttons. The piece grounds itself in tactile craft while pushing the boundaries of natural dye traditions, offering a vision of surface design and fashion that emerges not from synthetic pigments but from elemental reactions. It is an experiment in both material and collaboration: a fusion of Selina’s practice in natural dye and Aleks’s distinct visual language.
